Leather

I started leatherworking in March of 2021, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, after purchasing a bundle of scrap leather Facebook Marketplace. I sloppily cut, glued, and stitched my way through my first leather wallet and from then on I was hooked. The process of of leatherworking has been deeply calming for me during an otherwise turbulent time. I have mainly focused on making camera straps, belts, and simple tote bags, but hope to learn and pursue more complex projects as my skills develop.

Wood

My journey with woodworking started when my parents bought me a Swiss Army Knife for my first multiday canoe expedition when I was ten. I whittled away at branches and driftwood and incurring many scraps and cuts along the way. Besides a few simple projects in high school classes, I didn't resume woodworking until 2020. Like everyone else, I was stuck at home due to COVID and wanted to try some new hobbies. After watching a few Youtube videos, I decided my first project would be building a rack for my kayak. With some blood, sweat, tears, and some lap joints, I put together my first project. Since then, I have tackled (with some success and some failure) a variety of small woodworking and woodcarving projects.
